Visit of the Relics of St Bernadette to Leeds Cathedral

Relics of St Bernadette will journey on pilgrimage to England, Scotland, and Wales for the very first time. This very special once-in-a-lifetime event will provide an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the special gifts and charisms of Lourdes, in a church or cathedral near them. On the evening of the 3rd October 2022, the Relics of St Bernadette arrived at Leeds Cathedral, the evening began with the holy Mass celebrated by Right Reverend Marcus Nigel Stock, MA, STL, Tenth Bishop of Leeds.

Private Veneration

St. Bernadette was born in Lourdes, France on January 7, 1844. Her parents were very poor and she was the first of nine children. She was baptized at St. Pierre’s, the local parish church, on January 9. As a toddler, Bernadette contracted cholera and suffered extreme asthma. Unfortunately, she lived the rest of her life in poor health.

Bernadette was sent with her younger sister and a friend to gather firewood when a very beautiful lady appeared to her above a rose bush in a grotto called Massabielle.
