Palm Sunday this year proved to be a cold, windy and rainy day.

However, this did not deter the Cathedral from starting the Holy Week celebrations in the usual way with an ecumenical blessing of Palms. With this in mind members of Leeds Minster and the Cathedral along with Bishop Stock gathered outside the Civic Hall. They were joined by the Lord Mayor, Councillor David Congreve, and the Lady Mayoress Janet Harper JP. The Lord Mayor welcomed everyone and expressed the hope that they would enjoy the occasion despite the weather; Bishop Marcus in his words of welcome expressed the same thoughts, but took full responsibility for the rain - saying that every time he organised a procession it rained! Though the blessing of the Palms was led by the Bishop; Rev Canon Charles Dobbin MBE interim priest at Leeds Minister, and Rev Jenny Jones also took part in this short service. Once the blessing had been performed and the Gospel recalling the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem read - the procession formed up and people headed back to their own churches.

The celebrations of Holy Week was the theme that the Bishop took up in his Homily, pointing out how the events that were about to be commemorated were central to our lives and relationships with God. They reflected in our lives in the way we reacted to events and lived out our lives; coming to the climax in the Joy of Easter.
