Induction of Fr M. Larkin as Parish Priest
Induction of Fr M. Larkin as Parish Prieste
Fr Larkin was inducted as Parish Priest of Sacred Heart and St Patrick’s on the evening of Thursday 29 October by Bishop Marcus. Fr Larkin was welcomed by parishioners of the Sacred Heart and St Patrick’s and from Burley-In-Wharfedale, He was also welcomed by the local Churches Together in Sowerby Bridge and district. Bishop Marcus has also appointed Fr Larkin as the Dean of Halifax.
In his homily the Bishop reflected on the connection between unchallenged routine and the opportunity that change can bring to the life of the parish and the diocese. Bishop Marcus reflected on how Pope Francis understands this dynamic of change as realised through salvation history. He said: “The newness which God brings into our life is something that actually brings fulfilment, that gives true joy, true serenity, because God loves us and desires only our good.” Bishop Marcus continued with this question “Do we have the courage to strike out along the paths which God’s newness sets before us?"
After the Mass parishioners, priests of the deanery and guests gathered in the Church Hall for a celebration which included a lovely meal provided by the Ladies Group which celebrates 30 years of parish service this November.
