Batley Torchlight Procession 2016

Batley Torchlight Procession 2016 lead by The Right Reverend Marcus Stock Bishop of Leeds

On Monday 3rd October 2016, from all over the diocese pilgrims made the way to Batley to honour our lady in the annual Batley Torchlight Possession lead by The Right Reverend Marcus Stock Bishop of Leeds, from Batley Town hall to St Mary’s Batley from benediction.

The church procession, begun in 1951, was held each year to call for peace throughout the world.

It was discontinued about fourteen years ago but is due to be celebrated once again, thanks to the Right Rev Arthur Roche, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Leeds and former Batley Carr resident.

The Bishop remembered taking part in the procession as a young boy and thought the event should once again take its place in the Diocesan calendar.

So he set the challenge to parishioners at St Mary of the Angels Church in Cross Bank, who agreed to set up a committee to organise a procession in 2007.
