Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to Ripon – Ripon Cathedral

As part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, The Right Reverend Marcus Stock, Bishop of Leeds, was the principal celebrant at a special Diocesan Mass in Ripon Cathedral, to honour Our Lady and St Wilfrid on the 8th October 2016, with music led by the Bradford Catholic Youth Choir.

Over 1200 pilgrims have travelled from all over the Diocese of Leeds to Ripon Cathedral, including a group led by Stephen Habron who set off walking from Leeds Cathedral, on Thursday 6th October, following St Wilfrid’s Way via Fountains Abbey.

The Bishop thanked children from the local school, St Wilfrids Primary School, who greeted everybody into the Cathedral, handing out the Mass books and directing people to their seats. At the end of Mass the children from St Wilfrids performed a wonderful instrumental recital.

Canon Paul, from Ripon Cathedral, welcomed the Bishop, the Clergy and pilgrims to the Cathedral at the beginning of the service.

After Mass the Youth of the Diocese continued their pilgrimage with a walk to Fountains Abbey, where they took part in a short input session and prayer.
