More than Dance Wakefield Catholic Primary Schools 2014
Music, dance and prayer were combined to produce a vibrant and thought-provoking liturgy at St Peter and Paul’s Church in Wakefield on Wednesday 21st May, when around thirty-six Year 6 children from nine of the primary schools in the Wakefield and Out of District Catholic Partnership came together to work with the company More than Dance. The liturgy was the culmination of two days’ work.
Every year, a small group from each of the primary schools have the opportunity to work with Oonagh and Kevin, the inspirational creators of More than Dance. Joined this year by Danielle, the group gave the children a great opportunity to explore a creative way of praying and also to meet and get to know some of their future classmates who will be with them when they move to High School in September.
Relatives and friends, many of whom had rushed home from work to juggle tea and getting ready, were given an experience which combined energy with reflection and, as they watched, the atmosphere in the Church was transformed – the warmth, the pride and the goodwill becoming almost tangible by the end.
As Catholics we believe in a creative God. What better way to respond to that God than through creative prayer! It was more than prayer – it was more than dance.
