Mass at Carlton Towers

Thomas Thwing is listed as one of the priests who served the area currently served by St. Mary’s Church (Carlton & Selby), and since 2012 the present Parish Priest, Fr Wilson, has ensured that the Blessed Thomas is remembered with Mass each year around the time of his Feast Day: 23rd October.

This year, it was suggested that Carlton Towers – owing to its Catholic connections dating back to the 14th century – should host a special Mass celebrated by Bishop Marcus Stock (Bishop of Leeds).  The Towers no longer has its own chapel so Friday’s Mass was celebrated in the Venetian Drawing Room – with so many people attending, many more rows of chairs were extended into the entrance hall.

A group of children and staff from the Parish Primary School (St Mary’s, Selby) and from St. Wilfrid’s School, York, together with a larger group from Holy Family High School, Carlton were in attendance, together with parishioners from across the Deanery and beyond.
